10 Things #7
Silence.

Hi! Wendy here. This is simply a list of 10 things that have been proven in some way or another to help prevent burnout by nudging you a bit closer to your most beautiful authentic, vulnerable self.

Simple.

  1. TWIL (This Week I Learned.)
  1. This week I learned more about silence. I had a few of those uncomfortable moments that stretched and stretched as I listened to someone I cared about. Therapists often talk about that silence — but what I noticed and learned this week was that for me it felt as though I was listening to their body, listening to the air around them. Just an interesting observation.

Quote

“The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.” — Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (Listen to it below, at # 6)

Prompt

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep…”
Here’s a prompt:
”Where are your “woods”? What are your “promises”? Is there a balance of “woods” and “promises”? ”

Quest

Your mission this week should you choose to accept it is to go out and find silence. On a scale from noise-canceling headphones to deep woods —
Go out and see what kind of silence you can find.

  1. POD (Poem of the day — This time, listen to the entire “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening read by Tay Zonday)
  2. Song (Silence.)
  3. Video. (Longish - Brene Brown at 99U speaking about critics.)
  4. Hero: Brene Brown, Storyteller, Researcher.
Why? She’s setting us free to “Dare Greatly” — but, and this is what I realized this week — she’s giving us safe parameters to do this in. I spent hours rewatching talks, rereading her words and I was taken by what she has opened up for us as humans. The future is human.
